Several medieval houses stood on the place of the palace, which were merged in connection with the gradual acquisition of plots, and in particular with the fire in 1541, which destroyed a large part of the Lesser Town. Ondřej Hanybal from Ekersdorf, who bought the houses in 1601, apparently arranged the final merger. It happened between 1665–1669 according to the design of Giovanni Domenico Orsi. The palace is joined by a terrace garden rising up to the walls of Prague Castle gardens.
