Military Church of St. John of Nepomuk - Kanovnická

Nice church, every time we go in the direction of Hradčanské náměstí, I think it's really interesting. ??

Not every tourist knows about the existence of the street Canovnitskoy, which goes to Hradcany Square. Meanwhile, it is on it, a few minutes walk from the square, that the Catholic Church of St. John of Nepomuk is located, the construction of which was carried out at the request of the sisters of the Order of St. Ursula. The first stone of the baroque church was laid on October 20, 1720. At first the architect Christopher Dincenhofer was involved in the construction of the church. After the death of Dienzenhofer in 1722, his son Kilian Ignaz continued the work of his father, for whom the construction of this temple was the first major project. The young architect, later recognized by the Baroque master, reworked his father's project and successfully implemented it. In 1728, a year before the canonization of Jan Nepomuk, construction was completed, and in 1729 Archbishop Ferdinand von Hyunbürg carried out its ceremonial coverage. In 1784, the church was closed and used as a salt warehouse. At the end of the 19th century, he came under the control of the army and was transformed into a school church for a cadet school. In 1948, the church was closed, but later resumed work and was returned to the ownership of the Prague Archbishopric. In September 2001, the church was again transferred to the army of the Czech Republic. Here they hold concerts of the military orchestra, traditional church rites and services for the military and their families. Above the facade of the church is dominated by a narrow clock tower, in the niche of which between the two angels is a statue of St. John of Nepomuk. Above the entrance to the church are sculptures of saints Joseph and Sigismund, made by sculptor Matei Václav Ekkel. He also created a portal for the main entrance, which is decorated with seated figures of Faith and Hope. The vaulted church nave is covered with frescoes by the famous artist Wenzel Lorenz Rainer, which depict an extensive cycle of miracles and legends associated with the patron saint of the church. The main altar is decorated with a painting by Czech artist Jan Lishka. It was moved from the destroyed church of St. Vojtech.

It is accessible uphill or downhill, but the soldiers couldn't mind it. But it is a purely Baroque building and interior, with the participation of significant artists of the time - K.I. Dienzenhofer, V.V. Reiner, J.K. Liška.

Having reached the end of Novy Svet Street (how impressive it is with its zest), we turned to Kanovnická Street. The main building on this street is the Church of St. John of Nepomuck (Kostel sv. Jana Nepomuckého) - Military Church of St. John of Nepomuk - Military Church of John of Nepomuk. This church is the first independent work of Kilian Ignaz Dientzenhofer. It was consecrated in 1729, shortly after the canonization of John of Nepomuk. Above the octagonal nave, there are vaulted vaults with magnificent frescoes painted by V.V. Reiner and depicting episodes from the life of the saint. The church provides pastoral care for the Czech troops and is a place where they pray for fallen soldiers and for world peace. Be sure to come here along Cherninskaya Street, admiring its gardens. Then the doors and windows of Nový Svĕt street. She creates a romantic atmosphere at any time of the year. This is the most “golden” place in Prague: the houses here are called “At the Golden Pear”, “At the Golden Acorn”, “At the Golden Tree”, “At the Golden Lamb”, “At the Golden Vulture”, etc. They were built at the beginning of the 17th century, and at the end of the 17th - beginning of the 18th century. the facades were mostly redesigned in the early Baroque style. Astronomer Tycho Brahe lived in house N1. There is also one of the precious houses - the House "At the Golden Pear" (Dum U zlaté hrušky). And the restaurant of the same name is located in a building that was built in the Gothic style by such masters of their craft as Killian Ignaz Diensenhofer and Ignaz Palliardi. We had a good lunch in it. Recommend. Fire damaged this street twice, the last time it happened in 1541. Most of the small houses were rebuilt in the 17th century. Already on this street alone, a whole collection of interesting doors and windows was photographed. They show how windows and doors on houses are commensurate with the height of a person. The houses located on Novy Svet Street were built in the middle of the 14th century in order to provide housing for workers or those who wanted to be closer to Prague Castle.
