1410 yılında Prag’da inşa edilen Astronomik Saat Kulesi, dünyanın en eski üçüncü saati, aynı zamanda da çalışır durumda olan en eski saatidir. Saat, yapıldığı dönemin şehir merkezi olarak kabul edilmiş Eski Şehir Meydanı‘nda bulunmaktadır. Bu makine sadece sıradan bir saat değildi, yapısı ve özellikleri gereği aynı zamanda astrologlar, matematikçiler ve büyücüler tarafından da bir araç olarak kullanılabiliyordu. Efsaneye göre saat, Çek kralının emriyle o dönemde ün salmış olan Master Hanus’a yaptırılmış. Master Hanus saati bitirdikten sonra da kasıtlı olarak kör edilmiş. Çünkü saatin yapımı tamamlandıktan sonra dünya çapında ün kazanmış, başka ülke kralları da Master Hanus’a saat tasarlaması için tekliflerde bulunmuş. Bunu duyan Çek kralı ise, Master Hanus’u bu makinenin benzerini bir daha yapamasın diye gözlerine mil çektirip kör etmiş. Master Hanus bu olaydan kısa bir süre sonra kendini saat kulesinde asarak intihar etmiş. Krala olan öfkesi yüzünden de, kendini öldürmeden önce, bir daha kimse saati kullanamasın diye düzeltemeyecekleri şekilde bozmuş ve uzun bir süre saati kimse düzeltmeyi becerememiş. Saatin tasarımı ve işleyişi o kadar karışıkmış ki, o dönemde Master Hanus’tan başka hiç kimse saatin sistemini anlayamamış. Ancak 50 yıl sonra (bazı kaynaklarda 100 yıldan fazla olduğu belirtiliyor) başka bir saat ustası saati tamir etmeyi başarabilmiş. The Astronomical Clock Tower, built in Prague in 1410, is the third oldest clock in the world and the oldest in working condition. The clock is located in the Old Town Square, which was considered the city center of the period it was built. According to legend, the clock was built by Master Hanus, who was famous at that time, by the order of the Czech king. Master Hanus was deliberately blinded after finishing the clock. Because after the watch was completed, it gained fame around the world, and the kings of other countries made offers to Master Hanus to design a watch. The Czech king, who heard this, blinded Master Hanus with a shaft so that he could not replicate this machine again. Master Hanus committed suicide shortly after this incident by hanging himself in the clock tower. Because of his anger with the king, before he killed himself, he spoiled the watch in such a way that they could not fix it so that no one could use it again, and for a long time no one was able to fix it. The design and operation of the watch were so complicated that no one other than Master Hanus could understand the system of the clock at that time. Only after 50 years (some sources say more than 100 years) another watchmaker was able to repair the watch. Another legend about the story of the clock is that this clock is designed as "Devil's Eye". In its original form, there were no sculptures and decorations (Sculptures and some other decorations on the clock began to be added about 80 years after the clock was made). It was not designed to attract attention. It was supposedly thought of as the time keeper of evil. Also, whenever the Czech land encounters a disaster, the clock stops working (Even today, it is said that many Czech people still maintain this belief, so they are very afraid of the clock stopping). In fact, according to this legend, it is said that Master Hanus was blinded because he made a watch that serves the devil and the sciences (alchemy, witchcraft) that are seen as the source of evil.
