The bronze statue of st. George, who kills the dragon, is an important monument of Gothic ironwork from the 14th century. It is the first known statue in Czech that adorned the open space, ie it was not tied to the specific building. The author is unknown, the work dates back to 1373 and is connected with the building of the castle water main. Previously, it was thought that it was the work of Jiří and Martin of Kluž, but the authorship of the Parléř building and sculptural metallurgical works is also not excluded. After the Castle's fire in 1541, the statue was repaired. It used to stand in a different place, perhaps at the top of Baroque fountain in front of the Church of St. Vitus. Architect Josip Plečnik placed it on a high pillar with a shallow tank. Since 1967, only a copy of a statue is placed here, the original is in the collections of the National Gallery.
