Irregular ringing, noon bells cease at 11:53, wake up every Sunday at 8:30. I do not know what is worse, whether totally unnecessary ringing in a non-Christian hour, or that the ringing is not at the exact time

The beautiful Gothic church was rebuilt from the Romanesque rotunda from the 11th century. The church stands on a slight hill and behind it stands a baroque bell tower. The whole place is surrounded by a small park, and the fact that it is a short walk from the busy highway makes it a place of magical peace and tranquility.

Early baroque church of st. Pankrac stands in a smaller park, which was a former cemetery, abolished in 1866. It is one of the oldest monuments of Prague 4 and seeing it surrounded by all the modern built-up area is a bit strange feeling. The original building contains at its core a Romanesque rotunda from the 12th century and is based on the foundations of a Gothic church, which was destroyed by the Swedes at the end of the Thirty Years' War in 1648 - a cannonball is still visible in the masonry. It was rebuilt by the Jesuits at the end of the 17th century. A century later it also served as a gunpowder store. There is a baroque belfry less than 20 meters high by the church. It is a four-sided tower-like structure with a cartouche with an unreadable inscription in its northern wall. It is a two-storeyed building with half-round windows. In connection with the construction of the metro line C, its foundations were reinforced. Subway tunnels run directly fifteen meters below both monuments. A statue of St. John of Nepomuk stands in the area between the church and the belfry.

Near the church there is a baroque bell tower less than 20 meters high. It is a four-sided tower-shaped building, in the northern wall of which there is a cartouche with an illegible inscription. It is multi-storey, with semicircular windows, topped by a helical roof, a lantern and a poppy. In connection with the construction of the metro line C, its foundations were strengthened. Directly below it and the church, its tunnels lead to a depth of fifteen meters. In the area between the church and the bell tower stands a statue of St. Jan Nepomucký. Early baroque church of st. Kostel sv.
Church of St. Pankrác hides a rotunda from the 12th century. and stands on the foundations of a Gothic church, which was destroyed by the Swedes in 1648. A beautiful place. And not very well known.

We came across this beautiful church by accident. It is “hidden” on a small hill close to Vysehrad. Bell tower stands near to the church. Place with interesting history.
