Kostel, který vznikl jako součást kapucínského kláštera, který byl vybudován v letech 1683-1685, byl vysvěcen v roce 1690. Kapucíni zde žili do roku 1950, kdy byl řád násilně zrušen a poté kostel využívala církev československá. V roce 1957 se stal opět stánkem katolickým.
The church, which was built as part of the Capuchin monastery, which was built in 1683-1685, was consecrated in 1690. The Capuchins lived here until 1950, when the order was forcibly abolished and then the church was used by the Czechoslovak Church. In 1957, it became a Catholic stand again.

Kostel byl postaven knížetem Antonínem Florianem z Lichtenštejna v letech 1683–1690. Klášterní budova byla dokončena roku 1684, kostel pak o dva roky později. Slavnostní vysvěcení kostela proběhlo 9. 4. 1690 litoměřickým biskupem Jaroslavem hrabětem ze Šternberka. Obraz na hlavním oltáři představuje svatého Vavřince, který byl umučen v Římě roku 258 jeho autorem je španělský malíř Juan Fernandez Navaretto (1526–1579). The church was consecrated on 9 April 1690 by the Bishop of Litoměřice Jaroslav Count of Šternberk. The painting on the main altar depicts St. Lawrence, who was martyred in Rome in 258 by the Spanish painter Juan Fernandez Navaretto (1526–1579).
